Marketing Your eBay Business

If you want to make money in EBAY now and you will receive CDs, you can click Click Here!

The eBay Gallery attracts attention to your
listings by adding a thumbnail photo next to category listings and
search results pages. EBay claims that on average, Gallery listings
increase final prices by 11 percent.

Bolding your auction titles can draw additional
attention to your listing when it appears in search results. EBay
claims that on average, bolded listings see a 25 percent an increase in
final prices. Highlighting, which adds a colored band to your auction title, can further improve the visibility of your item.

Subtitling your item is a great way to provide
additional information about your items. Because you’re limited to 55
characters in the title of your listing, subtitling is useful for
conveying more about item’s condition, shipping discounts, guarantees,
or anything else that won’t fit in your title.

The Co-op Advertising Program was created to
provide PowerSellers and Trading Assistants with a scalable marketing
tool to promote their eBay businesses. As a co-op participant, eBay
will reimburse a percentage of your print advertising costs each
quarter, from $500 for “Bronze” level members and up to $8,000 for
“Titanium” level members. To participate, you must be a PowerSeller in
good standing and operate an eBay Store or you must be a PowerSeller
and a Trading Assistant.

If you have your own Web site, eBay provides buttons to link directly to your eBay store. It’s a great way to increase traffic to you store, increase page views, and ultimately raise the prices your items sell for.

Finally, there are a variety of reports you can use to hone your
sales practices. EBay produces a merchandising calendar as well as a
“What’s Hot” list, detailing the most popular categories. You can use
sales reports to analyze trends within your eBay Store. Used together,
these reports can give you insight into what consumers are looking for
and help you tailor your offerings to meet demand.

ValueClick/CJ $1 Million Adware Class Action Lawsuit

Kellie Stevens from AffiliateFairPlay.com has an important update on a proposed settlement that has been reached in class action lawsuits against ValueClick/CJ brought by advertisers and publishers last year. I blogged about it here, if you’d like background details on the case.
Kellie reports that VCLK/CJ denies the allegations but agrees to a $1 Million settlement which will be split 30/70 with advertisers/publishers.

More importantly in my opinion, the company also agrees to implement extensive enhancements in detection, reporting and prevention of third party software or adware that forces or hijacks clicks on CJ.
Additionally the settlement includes an independent audit of CJ’s Network Quality practices and recommendations for improvement. Kellie has a comprehensive post with all the details and copies of the legal docs.

The Hat Calling the Kettle Black

In the incredible irony department:
When it comes to these guys, I generally take a live and let live approach. What comes around goes around. But this just struck me as funny.

The red boxes are mine. Linkshare MUST be stealing commissions. That’s the only explanation.

The advertisement on this page was just icing on the cake. Pink icing at that. I don’t want to give them a link, but here’s where that ad goes, cookiestuffer.com.

the sales letter goes on and on. That amazing tool can be yours for a few hundred bucks.

What Do Affiliate Managers Want and Need?

Jeff Molander did a survey of affiliate managers and what they want and need. The questions are loaded and seem like market research for some new idea, but I’m not sure that’s the case. That’s just how it sounds to me.

Here is some of the feedback Jeff got from the survey: “Affiliate Managers Speak Out on Their Needs
Here are a few of the questions Jeff asked in his original post and survey:
As an affiliate manager, do you want…
- Better recognition and respect internally among your superiors?
- Better tools to do your job?
- More autonomy — to be allowed by the boss to “get creative” occasionally, try something new?
- More budget to foster creativity?
- A better compensation structure?
- A place where I can go to learn from respected experts first, party second?
- A trusted, “go-to” resource on performance-based marketing of all flavors that’s up-to-date?
- Less whiners and negativity in our business — more doers, risk-takers and brotherhood?

So check out some of the responses he received over at Revenews and he says he’ll be sharing the complete survey results soon.

Google Affiliate Network: Commence Assimilation

The rebranding of the Performics Connect Commerce Platform has begun. These guys don’t waste any time:

I’ll take this opportunity to call out my biggest annoyance with Performics. Anyone else get this warning on logging in? I appreciate the gesture guys, but we’re a commonly supressed domain? Maybe we’re on a blacklist somewhere. Dunno.

Anyway, things are progressing steadily over there at the new Google Affiliate Network. If they don’t stop at cosmetic changes, this will be fun.

Also, check out the interview that Chris Henger did with Angel…uh…D. over at Revenews.com. I’m glad to that Chris can maintain his outspokenness in light of the recent changes.

Google Adsense Video Distribution My Take

We all have started seeing more and more video ads from Adsense. They are venturing more and more into video. I received and email a while back that they wanted me to help test out their Adsense Video Distribution. This isn’t the normal video ads that appear in your Adsense, these are actual channels that you choose and separate code. Last week I got the email that the testing is active and I can run video ads now for the next 4 weeks. Here are my first thoughts on Google Adsense Distribution.

Setup:
You setup the video channel similarly to the way you do Adsense code except you get to choose a channel and only have one size to choose form (300×250). The nice part is they allowed it to be your 4th ad block if you already had 3 up. You have the following video channels to choose from (New ones will be added):
NBA
Tower of Rock
Only Hits
Fresh Clips of the Week
Hip-Hop Hustle
WSJ.com Video Channel
Pop Video Channel
Hip-Hop/R&B Channel
Epicurious Cooking Techniques
Style.com Fashion Channel
LX.TV Lifestyle TV

I chose to run the WSJ.com Video channel on a site geared towards investing and Fresh Clips of the Week on some general sites. Just copied the code and put it in just like normal adsense. Below is what the ad looked like for WSJ.com Video Channel.
Performance:
I tested the videos performance within the adsense setup as it is against adsense TOS to click on your on ads. I was please with the performance of the videos as in playing and clarity. More and more people are having broadband and these video channels started as soon as you clicked. The video was clear and the audio was crisp. I did not experience any hiccups.
Earnings:
I had high hopes for good earnings especially with it being a test run. The earnings were so great after 3 days, I removed them ALL! Yes you heard that correct they are no longer up on the sites. Maybe I have my sites so fine tuned to regular adsense that this medium didn’t perform well, but I doubt it. The per action for someone clicking on the video versus a regular adsense ad was pathetic. So I removed them all.

What sites this would be good for:
The only sites I think this avenue is good for is Myspace and Arcade type sites because most are earning so little off regular adsense this would be a step up and due to it being video and more people may click on it since it is different.

This is just my experiences if someone has had a different experience or the feel same about Google Adsense Video Distribution free to leave a comment.

No better Time then Right NOW!

There Really is no better time then right NOW! Why do I say this, no not because the economy is the best, its not because there is soo much money to be made (even though there is), it is because if you don’t do it right now someone else just might.

Look at it this way so many of us get lists of the top performing offers or even those higher up in earnings we get first dibs on offers but how many times have i gotten that info and done nothing with it. Then 2 weeks later those offers are rocking on the network and then i am trying to play catchup against the competition when i could have been a front runner. So get it promoted right now.

Some tips to help you get new offers going right now!

1. Turn off your AIM, Gtalk, YIM etc… (yes turn it off till you get the new offer up)

2. Don’t check your email for 4 hours. (Yes this would kill some of us but honestly if it is that urgent you should have good enough connections with your AM they will call you)

3. Start doing research. Use all your free tools or paid tools to do other site research and keywords. (don’t let it stop here, I know at times i fizzle out after research and don’t push thru to get it live)

4. Get the page/site designed. If you have a designer start them working on designs while you do your research, if you do the designs yourself unless you are a quick designer find someone that can do the designs for cheaper than what it is costing you time wise (remember time is key).

5. Write 5 ads for the campaign. Do your ads blend in to the other ads or do they stand out?

6. Actually this should come up after your research, Get a domain name. Try for it to be one target and as short as possible.

7. Get the site design up and get your campaigns going.

8. Check back in about an hour or two how is the campaign going? make any tweaks.

9. Turn your IM’s back on feel free to check you email and know that you didn’t postpone and on offer that can make you some $$$.

I hope this helps some of you get more campaigns going. I know when i am struggling to launch new campaigns either cause i am too busy with other things or just because i have gotten lazy/complacent with earnings doing these things help a lot. Do you have any tips for getting new campaigns launch leave a comment.

The Benefits of Working ol

I decided since Valentine’s Day is over things are getting back to more of a normal pace I would write a little bit on the benefits of working online.

1. Work from anywhere there is an internet connection. (it’s a rarity to go somewhere you can’t get internet)

2. The income doesn’t start and stop at 8 to 5. You can reach people 24/7

3. Set your own hours. I am not going to lie I put in more time than i ever did at my Engineering job, But I put in the time when and where i want to.

4. Startup costs are LOW!!! Compared to a B&M business it could cost you hundreds of thousands…. online, you don’t even have to buy a domain to make money online. (although i would reccomend buying a domain ($8) and hosting (under $10 month)).

5. It’s a Business Expense. No I am not cheating the system etc.. but you would be surprised what all you can write off as a business expense (Consult a good CPA or Tax Lawyer)

6. Cost of Expansion is low. Want to startup a 2nd website or marketing site Watch out its another whole $8.00…. because you can us same hosting account from before.

7. Even just surfing the internet for fun can be classified as ”Research & Developement”

8. You are your Boss!

9. Work in your Pajamas, shorts, or no clothes at all.

10. You literally can earn as much or as little as you want, only dependant on the time and effort you put into research, development, and promotion of your site or product.

So those are a few of the benefits of working online. Did you think of some benefits that i didn’t list leave a comment.

The Cons of Working Online

So last week I blogged about The Benefits of Working Online. so i figured I better give a real picture that it isn’t all roses and glory… but there are cons to working online. (but I Wouldn’t trade it for a normal 9 to 5)

1. Work from anywhere there is an internet connection. (this is also a con cause you just can’t seem to get away from your work… Even the cellphone I got it so i can do work and access my stats etc..)

2. Set your own hours. Yes this is a con… because you can so easily be LAZY…. I mean common yesterday I made $$,$$$ i should sleep in, ok sometimes i do… but if i got in that habit my earnings would tank over time.

3. You are Your own Boss. This is a con also because some people really need people breathing down their neck to be productive so you must be self motivating…

4. You work online so it’s is easy to get lost on Youtube searching for funny videos, myspace, facebook or reading stories that have nothing to do with your business growth.

5. Work in your Pajamas, shorts, or no clothes at all. This is a con only because it can drag on into RL (real life). I know many people that have made it online but if you were to meet them in person, they look like the slob down the street. Not saying you have to dress to the 9’s but you run a business somewhat dress like it.

6. Complaints or issues aren’t 8 to 5 they are 24/7. Your sites go down at 2am you lose money. Your ads stop running due to QS you are lossing money. Those PM’s about people spamming etc.. come 24/7.

7. Good, Dedicated, hard working designers and coders are hard to find. This is a major con online with sooo many freelancers… hence once i found good ones i held onto them.

8. No Google, MSN, YSM love can mean no or little money in your pocket.. The online business is very dependant on search engines… so when they don’t show you love your bottom line is effected.

9. A CPA offer gets pulled that was making you Big Money… Many cases there is nothing you can do but try to get another offer making money. Sometimes you get lucky and can work out a deal directly.

So there you have it some Cons to working online. As I stated before I would much rather do what i do online than go back to a normal 8 to 5. Any additional Cons I forgot?

Why Affiliate Marketters do ebooks forums etc..

I have gotten a few emails lately asking me why so many affiliate marketters mainly super affiliates end up doing ebooks, classes or setup private forums. The ultimate reason is a simple one. They do it for the money. They fall into two categories when they do this:

1. Desperate: They were a super affiliate made a ton of cash on a few select offers and that well dried up, so they are making a last ditch effort by offering their services at a cheap rate.

2. Bored: They are bored with affiliate marketing and want to try a different area of making money. Consulting is billion dollar industry, get paid to talk about what you know… sure why not as you have a captive audience.

I am not going to comment on any of the affiliates/super affiliates doing any of these things mainly because i haven’t used or tried their services because to ME it isn’t worth it. As in most cases taking the money you would spend on the ebook, private forum would be better spent testing out campaigns. As you have to realize the stuff they are putting in ebook, forum is all old news for the most part do you really think they will share their 100K a month maker, even Shoemoney admits one of the dumbest things he did was talk about ringtones, but he also states would he be who he is today without spilling the beans…. my thoughts are probably not but i bet he would have made a lot more off of ringtones.

IF any of affiliates/super affiliates read this, I am not bashing anyone that is trying their hand at other things just remember you will fall into one of the two categories and from my experience it is usually #1.

Get the Best Payout on CPA Offers

Tired of lame payouts? Get the bumps, Get the offers and utlimately get the cash! I will tell you how to get the best payout on any CPA offer.

1. Under promise over deliver on the offer. Don’t poke your manager for a BIG bump unless you can do something with the offer. Or if it is in a different niche you haven’t tried before tell the AM you will do the best you can and a bump would help. (I want to clarify on a big bump cause any offer you can ask for a bump and should get one of .05 to .10)

2. Get the best affiliate manager (AM) in the networks you can. If you are unhappy with your AM ask for another one. If it takes your AM to long to give you a bump or find out information on an offer ask for another one. Affiliate Managers can make or break you from being the best affiliate you can be (plus give you access to Private offers).

3. Find out which affiliate network has the offer direct. This is a little tougher but in general you can look at the base pay who has the highest start pay(this one isn’t full proof because sometimes networks set their margins low to attract more affiliates), also who can give you room to grow. Approach them and ask what they can pay you if you can do 500, 1000, or 5000 leads a day (the amount will vary depending on the type of offer).

4. Go Direct! If you are doing an offer with serious volume, why give the networks 5% to 20% as that can mean 1000’s left on the table. Hit up the company and see what they say, sometimes they don’t want to deal with you directly so be prepared to really sell yourself (remember it means more money in your pocket).

You have any additional tips you want to share about getting the best CPA offer Payout then leave a comment. Got a Question contact me or leave a comment and i will do my best to answer it.

Yahoo Search Marketing Courtesy Call and My Thoughts

I received an interesting call from Yahoo Search Marketing to talk about their “Quality Pricing”. What is interesting is they have no idea what kind of leads or revenue i am producing from an ad but yet they are some how Quality pricing the ads i am paying for based on where they come from. To my surprise without the quality pricing over the past week I would have spent more than 698 and some change on top of what my account showed. While I found this interesting, what was more concerning to me is I brought up that I am US target based but yet I still at times get more than 25% from foreign countries. From there the call went south as she doesn’t deal with that and gave me the generic we are working on it. I would think it is MUCH harder to try to guage a quality of source traffic than it is to just block foriegn traffic.

My overall thoughts to Yahoo Search Marketing:

1. Thanks for the courtesy call to let me know I would have spent more had they not introduce this “quality” system.
2. Thanks for the money back over this past month (X,XXX.XX) due to the foreign traffic you are sending me. (I had to file a click fraud report to receive the credit but well worth the time)
3. Common YSM country targeting isn’t that hard other Search Engines do it much better, even some third tier.
4. Get rid of minimum .10 bid some of the traffic isn’t even worth a few pennies let alone 10 cents.
5. Don’t just follow what Google does be proactive and make a HUGE difference in the Search engine world and you will capitalize more searchers.

That’s all i can think of now. What are yall thoughts… what can Yahoo change?

Googles CompetitiGoogles Competition Joining Forces?

“Microsoft Corp has made an unsolicited offer to buy Yahoo Inc for $44.6 billion in cash and stock, seeking to join forces against Google Inc in what would be the biggest Internet deal since the Time Warner-AOL merger.”

You can read the full article here

So Microsoft is trying to buy more market share. Smart move on their part in my opinion.  To really compete with the big G this buyout will have to occur or Y! will have to make a counter offer to buyout MSN search side (not that likely IMO).

“Microsoft said it had offered to buy Yahoo for $31 per share, which it said represented a 62 percent premium above the company’s closing stock price on Nasdaq on Thursday.”

Good news for those stock holders that took the dip earlier this week….  What will come of this only time will tell but honest i hope it happens and they take the best part of Y and MSN and make them into a powerhouse search!

What do you think?

Yahoo Minimum bid change, what were they thinking?

So Yahoo has started rolling out there new minimum bid setup, which most people were hoping this would enable people to bid less than .10 on keywords… I have yet to see them, now i do have some keywords i bid .10 and pay less per click, but i have seen many keywords inflate to crazy amounts for a minimum bid. Expecting me to pay over .50 minimum bid on a term that is only worth .10 to me. While i understand its a new system and there will be things changing but I personnally only see one thing happening due to it, people advertising less thru YSM and people putting more money into MSN and Google. While Google’s quality score is annoying at times you aren’t going to be asked for a crazy amount if your site is an authority on a subject.  What is your take on the new YSM change?
